Before joining CodeEd in early 2015, Carey was Development Coordinator at International House New York. Previously, she worked in public relations at Rubenstein Associates and was a web developer and program consultant with SOURCE Nonprofit Consulting. She holds a B.A. from Claremont McKenna College.
Angie Schiavoni is a co-founder of CodeEd and the CEO of Mamajamas, a universal baby registry and recommendations engine for expecting parents. Before that, Angie served as CodeEd's Executive Director. In 2010, she was a founding partner of Lifecycle Strategy Group, a technology and product marketing consulting firm. Angie has led agile product management workshops for a variety of start-ups and organizations, including Harvard Business School and the MIT Media Lab. She also led Product Development for two social enterprises: AngelPoints and New Progressive Coalition. Angie holds a B.A. from Wesleyan University.
Sep Kamvar is a co-founder of CodeEd and an Associate Professor of Media Arts and Sciences and head of the Social Computing research group at the MIT Media Lab. From 2003 to 2007, Sep was the engineering lead of personalization at Google. Prior to Google, he was founder and CEO of Kaltix, a personalized search company that was acquired by Google in 2003. Sep is the author of two books and over 40 technical publications and patents in the fields of search, machine learning, and peer-to-peer networks. He received his A.B. from Princeton University and Ph.D. from Stanford University.
Joanne not only sits on the Board of CodeEd, but also currently spearheads their west coast operations. Joanne is an engineering manager at MyVest Corp, a technology provider of wealth management solutions used by top financial institutions worldwide. Prior to MyVest from 1999 to 2002, Joanne was an associate at Scient Corp, a professional services firm specializing in building e-commerce websites. Joanne worked as a web developer on client projects such as sephora.com and wellsfargo.com. Since 2001, Joanne has been an active volunteer with the SMART program in San Francisco where she is a tutor and mentor for middle school students from under-served communities. Joanne holds a B.S. in Information and Decision Systems from Carnegie Mellon University.
Benjamin Statz, Director, is the co-founder and CEO of Parhelion, Ltd, a quantitative trading firm. He has over ten years of trading experience focused on high-frequency, statistical arbitrage in global equity and derivatives markets. His approach uses statistical inference and decision theory. Before founding Parhelion, he also traded for Royal Bank of Canada and Susquehanna International Group. He holds an M.S. from NYU in Mathematics in Finance and B.S. from University of Wisconsin in Economics.
A California native, Mary Ann helps direct CodeEd's west coast operations including course development, teacher recruitment and training, marketing, and communications. She currently works as a Web Developer at Hotwire, which she joined in 2008. An active member of the Society of Women Engineers since 2004, she has been a longtime advocate for women in computing. She has held numerous leadership positions, including President of her professional SWE section and Toastmasters International club.
